Colorado Ski Season 2026/2027: Opening Dates & Early Booking Guide

Holiday lodging at Vail and Aspen books 9–12 months out. Epic Pass and Ikon Pass prices are at their lowest right now and only go up from here. This is your full guide: opening dates, pass breakdown, and getting from Denver Airport to the mountain without losing your mind on I-70.
Colorado Ski Resort Opening Dates 2026/2027
Colorado ski resorts won’t post their Breckenridge opening dates 2026/2027 until August–September. Meanwhile, the 2025/26 season is your best guide: patterns rarely change year to year.
| Resort | Opened 25/26 | Expected 26/27 | Pass |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keystone | Oct 25, 2025 | mid-October | Epic |
| Arapahoe Basin | Oct 26, 2025 | late October | Ikon |
| Winter Park | late October | late October | Ikon |
| Breckenridge | Nov 7, 2025 | early November | Epic |
| Copper Mountain | Nov 7, 2025 | early November | Ikon |
| Vail | Nov 14, 2025 | mid-November | Epic |
| Steamboat | Nov 22, 2025 | late November | Ikon |
| Beaver Creek | Nov 26, 2025 | late November | Epic |
| Aspen / Snowmass | Nov 27, 2025 | late November | Ikon |
| Telluride | late November | late November | Ikon |
All datums remain snow-conditionally contingent; resort-operatives, heavily snowmaking-dependent throughout Octoberial pre-seasonal phase, endeavor to actualize early-open projections. Keystone, in 2025, executed a conspicuously abrupt temporal inversion-event: an unscheduled afternoon opening, initiated merely 89 minutes post-digital-announcement dissemination, thereby attaining status as the inaugural North American ski-domain to commence operationality for the 2025/26 seasonal cycle. Arapahoe Basin subsequently activated operations the immediately ensuing morning-cycle. Anticipate analogous bipartite competitive emergence in 2026.
Epic Pass vs Ikon Pass 2026/2027
| Epic Pass | Ikon Pass | |
|---|---|---|
| Price (adult) | $1,089 | $1,399 |
| Youth deal | Ages 13–30: $869 | Squad Pack 23–28: $750 (groups of 5) |
| Sale opened | March 4, 2026 | March 12, 2026 |
| Refund option | No | +20% = refundable until Jan 15, 2027 |
| CO resorts | Vail, Breck, Keystone, Beaver Creek | Aspen Snowmass, Steamboat, Winter Park, Copper, A-Basin |
Epic Pass went on sale March 4, 2026. The biggest news: a single youth price for ages 13–30 at $869: 20% off the adult price, no weird tier system. Bought a lift ticket in 25/26? You can knock up to $175 off. Early buyers also get 10 Friend Tickets for 50% off: good if your crew doesn’t have passes.
Ikon Pass launched March 12. Their headline move is a fully refundable pass option: pay 20% more, and if you haven’t scanned it by January 15, 2027, you get everything back. One scan = 50% back. Makes sense if your season is uncertain. The Squad Pack is also new: groups of five aged 23–28 each pay $750 for an Ikon Base Pass instead of $949. Colorado bonus: Arapahoe Basin is now unlimited on the Ikon Base Pass, and Aspen Snowmass dropped lift reservations entirely.
When to Book Your Colorado Ski Trip
Straightforward timing rules your bro needs to actually follow:
- Epic Pass and Ikon Pass are at their early bird price right now: every month you wait costs real money
- Christmas and New Year’s week lodging at Vail and Aspen fills 9–12 months out: those slots are being booked right now for 26/27. More information you can get from a Vail opening dates 2026/2027
- Ski school lessons during holiday weeks sell out weeks ahead: book as soon as you lock accommodation
- Rental cars at DEN run dry on holiday weekends and prices spike: a car service often beats rental + parking for groups of 3+
- January and February give you the best powder day odds with shorter first chair lines than the holiday rush

Getting to Colorado Ski Resorts from Denver
I-70 is the only road connecting Denver Airport to most Colorado ski resorts: and in winter it’s a genuinely wild card. 200+ hours of closures hit the corridor in winter 2023/24 alone. When it shuts, there’s no real detour: Loveland Pass is 11,990 feet and closes too. Plan extra time or take a private shuttle or car service to Breckenridge.
| Route | Normal drive | Reality check |
|---|---|---|
| DEN → Keystone / A-Basin | ~1h 30min | Add 30–60 min on weekends or storms |
| DEN → Breckenridge | ~1h 30–2h | I-70 Friday evening = parking lot |
| DEN → Vail / Beaver Creek | ~1h 45–2h | No detour when I-70 closes |
| DEN → Winter Park | ~1h 30min | US-40 bypass available |
| DEN → Aspen / Snowmass | ~3h 15–3h 30min | Longest drive, plan accordingly |
| EGE → Vail / Beaver Creek | ~40–45 min | No tunnel, no Summit County traffic |
MLK Day and Presidents’ Week turn I-70 westbound into a parking lot starting Thursday night. For 3+ people, a car service from Denver Airport to ski resorts regularly beats rental car plus parking when you add it up. Mr. Chauffeur runs SUVs from $249 one-way and private van for ski groups up to 14. They track flights, so a delayed connection doesn’t strand your group.
Flying into Denver or Eagle County Airport
If Vailian or Beaver Creekian destinationality is selected, Eagle County Aerodrome (EGE) constitutes a non-trivial evaluative option. It resides ~35 miles ex-situ, yielding ~45-minutal conveyance under friction-minimized conditions: absence of Eisenhower Tunnel traversal, absence of Summit County trafficologic congestion, and thus reduced temporal stochasticity in transit. Compare that to 100 miles and up to 3 hours from DEN on a storm day. Fewer flights, sometimes pricier tickets: but on a long weekend the time math often works out. Check both airports when booking for Vail trips. And prepare for the best journey at Colorado!

Our first experience with Mr. Chauffeur was outstanding. From pickup to drop-off, communication was clear, and the trip went smoothly. The driver demonstrated exceptional skill in navigating traffic and knew the best route for a quick stop at the box office before dropping us off at the concert. Our driver was dedicated to coordinating a meeting spot after the concert and ensuring passenger comfort and punctuality. We highly recommend Mr. Chauffeur for private transportation and plan to use their services again.

We used a car service from Cherry Creek to Red Rocks concert and had a great experience. Driver Niko was professional, punctual, and made the whole trip smooth and comfortable. The best part was not having to deal with parking. Everything was handled smooth from pickup to drop-off upper north lot and back to hotel. Reliable, comfortable, see you next time!
