Denver Airport Ground Transportation Guide: Every Ride Compared

October 6, 2026 Blog
Denver International Airport

Denver airport ground transportation gets real the second you look at a map. DEN sits about 25 miles from downtown, one of the most remote big airports in the US. A cab ride here costs about as much as a solid dinner for two, so the ride you pick matters.

Denver International Airport has a ride for every budget, each on its own terminal level, naturally. Prices & pickup spots are below. For last-minute changes, check the Denver Airport official ground transportation page.

DEN Airport Transportation Options at a Glance

Here are the main DEN airport transportation options side by side. Most start on Level 5 of the Jeppesen Terminal. The train sits down on Level 1.

How to Get From Denver Airport to Downtown

Figuring out how to get from Denver airport to downtown takes five minutes of planning. Skipping them gets expensive.

Denver Airport Train to Downtown

The Denver airport train to downtown is the RTD A Line, and it’s the budget champion. It leaves from Level 1, Transit Center, under the Westin hotel. Trains reach Union Station in 37 minutes & run every 15 minutes most of the day.

It rolls through 61st & Peña, then 40th & Airport. After 38th & Blake, you’re at Union Station in LoDo. Any trip to or from DEN requires the $10 Airport Day Pass. The pass also covers RTD buses & light rail all day. Grab the details on RTD fares and passes before you land.

Denver Airport Uber Lyft Pickup

The Denver airport Uber Lyft pickup zone is on Level 5, Island 5, on the East or West side. The airport asks you to request the ride after you grab your bags. Fair enough, since a driver has a hard time loading a suitcase still circling the carousel.

A standard rideshare pickup runs $45-60 to downtown. Waits run 5-10 minutes & drop to 3-7 at peak hours. After 2 a.m., plan on 15-30+ minutes. Surge pricing has impeccable timing & shows up right as you land.

  • Fridays surge 5-9 p.m.
  • Sundays surge 4-8 p.m.
  • Holiday weekends spike fares.
  • Ski season raises prices.
  • Snowstorms send rates flying.

In those windows the fare can hit $80-120+. That’s the same 25-mile drive with a much bigger receipt.

Taxi

Taxis wait at Level 5, Island 1, around the clock. Downtown (Zone A) is a flat $72.04, airport access fee included. Other addresses go by the meter.

Shared Van & Commuter Shuttle

The shared van, or commuter shuttle, picks up at Level 5, Island 4. It runs door-to-door to hotels & addresses across metro Denver for roughly $25-40 per person. The catch is the route. You share the van with strangers & their hotels, so the ride takes 45-60 minutes.

Denver Airport Shuttle vs Car Service

The Denver airport shuttle vs car service question mostly comes down to stops. A shuttle drops several riders along the way & can tack on 20-30 extra minutes. A car service drives straight to one address, which is yours.

Rideshare pricing floats with demand, plus you wait after baggage claim. A car service runs on a fixed price with no surge, and the driver is already standing at the exit when you walk out.

Groups change the math fast. Four people with skis & suitcases rarely fit a regular Uber, so you end up booking UberXL or Lyft XL. At that point the total lands close to a car service & sometimes climbs past it. For that crowd, an SUV or van for groups is the saner move.

Denver Airport Rental Car vs Shuttle

The Denver airport rental car vs shuttle choice depends on your plans after landing. DEN hosts more than 10 rental companies, all working from off-site rental counters. To reach your rental car, you first ride a free shuttle from Level 5, Island 4. Add the counter line, and your quick pickup turns into a small side quest.

A rental makes sense for a week of road trips. For a downtown hotel stay, you pay for the car & then pay again to park it. Heading to Vail or Breckenridge in winter means handling I-70 yourself, which is exactly why a car service to the mountains exists.

Best Way to Get From DEN to Downtown Denver

The best way to get from DEN to downtown Denver depends on who’s riding.

  • Budget solos take the train.
  • Light packers rideshare off-peak.
  • Families book a car service.
  • Ski groups need bigger vehicles.

For a private car service Denver airport arrivals can count on, Mr. Chauffeur handles the pre-booked transfer straight to your door. You get a fixed price at booking & a driver waiting at the exit. The ride goes direct, with zero transfers & zero rental desks.

Business trips call for something sharper. Our black car service Denver airport pickups put a black car & a professional chauffeur at the curb. Vehicle options live on our private car service from Denver Airport page.

Book Your Denver Airport Ride Ahead

Grab your bags and walk straight to a driver who already knows your name. Mr. Chauffeur sets a fixed price when you book, so a Friday night arrival costs the same as a sleepy Tuesday one. Pick an SUV or van for your crew and lock in your pickup time today. Your future self at baggage claim will be grateful.

We had an amazing experience with Niko our driver and new friend. The original driver was tied up with airport delay and Niko said he would take of us and he did. We had an amazing experience with this company! They took care of all our transportation throughout our vacation — two evenings for «Goose» at Red Rocks, plus a round trip to Breckenridge. Dan even showed us the scenic route over Loveland Pass instead of going through the tunnel. Excellent service from start to finish!

Our driver Greg was excellent! He knew about the closure in Glenwood Canyon and took us through the stunning Independence Pass instead. The drive from Denver Airport to Aspen took less than four hours, and the scenery along the way was absolutely beautiful. Greg was friendly, professional, and great to talk to. We highly recommend this private transportation company!

Absolutely wonderful! Niko was on time, efficient, a great driver and knowledgeable about Redrocks and the area. Clean, nice van for 12 of us. It rained before the concert so after dropping us off he came back and picked us up, letting us sit in the van until the rain passed. It was a helpful way to keep us dry and enjoy the concert fully when it started. Thanks Niko!

The driver demonstrated exceptional skill in navigating traffic and knew the best route for a quick stop at the box office before dropping us off at the concert. Our driver was dedicated to coordinating a meeting spot after the concert and ensuring passenger comfort and punctuality. We highly recommend Mr. Chauffeur for private transportation and plan to use their services again.

We used a car service from Cherry Creek to Red Rocks concert and had a great experience. Driver Niko was professional, punctual, and made the whole trip smooth and comfortable. The best part was not having to deal with parking. Everything was handled smooth from pickup to drop-off upper north lot and back to hotel. Reliable, comfortable, see you next time!
