Sundance Film Festival Boulder 2027: How to Get There and Where to Stay

Last updated: November 2, 2026
Sundance Film Festival Boulder runs January 21 to 31, 2027, and it’s the first edition outside Park City. The festival spent decades in Utah, so Sundance Boulder is a new map for everyone, regulars included. The guide runs from dates and venues through airport rides and buses to parking and lodging. Everything below was checked on November 2, 2026, and where the city only plans something, we say so.
Sundance 2027 Dates and Key Days
Sundance 2027 dates cover eleven days, Thursday, January 21 through Sunday, January 31. The table sorts out the big days. January 22 is the gala, and the 29th brings the awards.
| Dates | What happens |
|---|---|
| January 21 to 26 | World premieres |
| January 21 to 27 | Press and industry screenings at Cinemark Century Boulder |
| January 22 | Gala |
| January 28 to 31 | Online program |
| January 29 | Awards |
Sundance Film Festival 2027 tickets live on the Sundance in-person tickets page. Fans who want it all go for an all-access pass or a 10-ticket pack. Single tickets are the casual route and go on sale January 8, 2027. The program arrives in December 2026, and Sundance’s own guide, what to know about the 2027 festival, collects the basics.
Sundance Boulder Venues
Sundance Boulder spreads across 11 venues within about 2 miles, all inside city limits, with most of the action downtown and on the CU Boulder campus. Some are walkable. Chautauqua Auditorium usually calls for a bus. Here’s how the rest group by area.
- Macky Auditorium and Muenzinger Auditorium sit on the CU Boulder campus.
- Roe Green Theatre adds a third university venue.
- Boulder Theater and eTown Hall cover the downtown core.
- Boulder High School and Casey Middle School lend their auditoriums.
- Dairy Arts Center and Century Boulder sit a bit east of downtown.
Chautauqua Auditorium is the scenic outlier at the foot of the Flatirons. Canyon Theater sits inside the Boulder Public Library, where it hosts talks. Between screenings, Pearl Street handles the downtown meals and The Hill handles the campus ones.
Flying In: Denver Airport to Boulder
Denver International Airport is the realistic gateway, with more than 30 direct international routes in January, according to Sundance. The small airfields around Boulder, coded BDU, BJC, EIK and LMO, don’t have scheduled flights, and COS is about 100 miles away.
How far Boulder is from Denver Airport depends on traffic, but plan on about 45 minutes by car. For that run door-to-door, the Denver to Boulder private shuttle page is the one to open, and the Denver Airport car service page covers every other pickup.
| Option | Cost | Drop-off | Travel time |
|---|---|---|---|
| RTD AB1 | $10 one way | Downtown Boulder Station, 14th and Walnut | About 1 hour 10 minutes |
| SUV, 1 to 5 passengers | from $289 | Hotel or venue door | 45 to 55 minutes |
| Van, 1 to 9 passengers | from $369 | Hotel or venue door | 45 to 55 minutes |
| Van, 1 to 14 passengers | from $429 | Hotel or venue door | 45 to 55 minutes |
Mr. Chauffeur Colorado prices the private run per vehicle, with a 20% gratuity on top. RTD runs the AB line from DEN, and AB1 ends at Downtown Boulder Station. Visit Boulder says those buses leave about every hour.
Getting Around Boulder During the Festival
The HOP, SKIP, JUMP and Chautauqua Connector buses serve festival destinations every 10 to 15 minutes, according to the City of Boulder, which also plans extra capacity on key routes. Bring a warm coat. Visit Boulder says the January daytime high hovers near 47°F, and the walks between venues add up.
From Denver, the Flatiron Flyer follows US 36 to Boulder, calling at Westminster, Broomfield, Louisville and Superior along the way. Regional buses from Denver and its airport connect directly to Boulder’s local buses, according to Sundance.
The City of Boulder transportation guide was checked on November 2, 2026, and it’s still thin. It doesn’t list fares or park-n-ride locations yet, and free rides aren’t confirmed there. The city plans to release more details in the coming months. The page calls the airport routes nearly around-the-clock, though it doesn’t list extra late-night service yet.
Downtown Boulder Parking: Why to Leave the Car
According to the City of Boulder, most festival venues don’t have parking of their own. Paid public parking exists around town, and the city links a map. As of November 2, 2026, the city is still publishing parking and road details.
Downtown Boulder parking will be shared with 11 days of festival traffic, which makes a case for leaving the rental car at the hotel. Park-n-ride lots across the Front Range are part of the transit picture, though their locations aren’t listed yet. Drivers will pay for a space and walk a few blocks.
Where to Stay for Sundance: Boulder, Nearby Towns or Denver
Hotel Boulderado is the festival headquarters. The official Sundance lodging page is the place to start, and the Visit Boulder lodging list covers hotels in Boulder, Colorado city limits. If a hotel shows nothing online, call it, since some rooms sit in group blocks.
Short-term rentals need a Festival Lodging Rental license from the city, and the number of listings keeps growing. Sundance’s lodging page puts Denver lodging about 35 minutes from Boulder, which makes it a workable base.
| Base | What it offers | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Boulder | Venues within about 2 miles, with Pearl Street and The Hill close by | Fewer rooms on opening weekend |
| Nearby towns | A short drive or bus ride, with regional lodging on the Sundance site | Needs a car or a bus schedule |
| Denver | Named by Sundance as an option, with the Flatiron Flyer from Union Station | Last bus after a late-night screening |
Guests staying outside Boulder can get a quote for festival rides and pick a vehicle from the SUV and Sprinter fleet. A Sprinter van keeps a bigger group on one ride.
Which Dates Are Easiest to Book
Visit Boulder says hotel space is limited on opening weekend, while the second week and the closing weekend show far more options. Rooms can appear in waves, so check again each week.
A stay that starts Monday, January 25 lines up with that second week. Anyone who only wants the closing weekend, January 29 to 31, faces a bigger pool of rooms than opening weekend does. Calling hotels directly helps when listings look full, because group blocks release rooms on their own schedule. Plans fall apart sometimes, and the online program on January 28 to 31 is the couch-friendly backup.

The Sundance Institute says Boulder gives the festival room to grow, meaning a bigger program and more films in front of audiences. That’s why Sundance is moving to Boulder, at least in the Institute’s telling. After decades in Park City, Utah, Boulder becomes its home beginning in 2027.

We had an amazing experience with this company! They took care of all our transportation throughout our vacation — two evenings for «Goose» at Red Rocks, plus a round trip to Breckenridge. Dan even showed us the scenic route over Loveland Pass instead of going through the tunnel. Excellent service from start to finish!

Our driver Greg was excellent! He knew about the closure in Glenwood Canyon and took us through the stunning Independence Pass instead. The drive from Denver Airport to Aspen took less than four hours, and the scenery along the way was absolutely beautiful. Greg was friendly, professional, and great to talk to. We highly recommend this private transportation company!

Absolutely wonderful! Niko was on time, efficient, a great driver and knowledgeable about Redrocks and the area. Clean, nice van for 12 of us. It rained before the concert so after dropping us off he came back and picked us up, letting us sit in the van until the rain passed. It was a helpful way to keep us dry and enjoy the concert fully when it started. Thanks Niko!

Our first experience with Mr. Chauffeur was outstanding. From pickup to drop-off, communication was clear, and the trip went smoothly. The driver demonstrated exceptional skill in navigating traffic and knew the best route for a quick stop at the box office before dropping us off at the concert. Our driver was dedicated to coordinating a meeting spot after the concert and ensuring passenger comfort and punctuality. We highly recommend Mr. Chauffeur for private transportation and plan to use their services again.
