Red Rocks Weather: What to Expect at Every Concert, Month by Month

Every seat at the amphitheatre is a wooden bench under open sky, so Red Rocks weather ends up as part of the ticket. By the Red Rocks FAQ, Red Rocks Amphitheatre weather includes full sun, strong wind, severe rain and snow.
NOAA’s monthly normals put numbers on the temperature and precipitation from March to November. Storm delays and the umbrella ban get their own sections further down.
Red Rocks Weather by Month, March to November
NOAA’s closest station with temperature normals is Evergreen, six miles west of the venue and about 600 feet higher. So every figure in the table, taken from the NOAA climate normals for 1991 to 2020, runs a shade cool for the seats.
| Month | High / low (°F) | Precipitation | What it means for the night |
|---|---|---|---|
| March | 51.0 / 20.9 | 1.76 in, with 17.0 in of snow | Winter coat weather with snow still falling |
| April | 55.6 / 26.7 | 2.37 in, with 14.9 in of snow | Cold nights and wet snow |
| May | 64.0 / 35.5 | 2.49 in, the wettest month | Rain jacket season begins |
| June | 75.6 / 43.1 | 1.73 in | Warm days and cool evenings |
| July | 81.2 / 49.0 | 2.20 in | Warmest month with storms in the afternoon |
| August | 79.1 / 47.2 | 2.30 in | About six wet days a month |
| September | 72.5 / 39.5 | 1.55 in, with 1.1 in of snow | Cool nights come back fast |
| October | 61.1 / 28.7 | 1.21 in, with 6.5 in of snow | Hat and glove nights |
| November | 51.1 / 20.2 | 0.81 in, with 10.4 in of snow | Winter again after dark |
NOAA’s Evergreen record has March sliding from a 51.0 high to a 20.9 low. That 30 degree gap is the closest the table gets to the temperature drop after sunset. Every other row lands between 28 and 33, so the Red Rocks temperature gap holds all season.
Why Red Rocks Feels Different from Denver
Altitude drives the weather at Red Rocks, which is why a Denver forecast makes a poor packing list. The Red Rocks elevation of 6,400 feet sits about 1,000 feet above Denver’s airport station, which reads 5,414.
Foothills altitude costs real degrees. The airport posts 89.9 for a July high and 60.2 for the low, while Evergreen posts 81.2 and 49.0. August works the same way for rain. Evergreen logs 6.2 days with a tenth of an inch against 3.6 at the airport.
The park sits in Jefferson County beside the town of Morrison, so Morrison CO weather pages cover the same foothills.
Afternoon Storms and Lightning: How Weather Delays Work
If staff tell you to leave during a weather delay, the venue calls your own vehicle the safest shelter. Texting RRWEATHER to 67283 also gets you the day-of alerts.
A National Weather Service forecaster told Denverite in July 2025 that afternoon thunderstorms or showers hit the mountains almost daily. The forecaster still called it a normal pattern. The monsoon wind shift is most prevalent in late July and August, according to the same story. Its effect is strongest in southwestern Colorado but can reach the Front Range.
Hail season runs from late April to mid-August and peaks in June. That comes from Colorado State University climate center data, as reported by FOX 31 in 2024.
Lightning rules come from the National Weather Service, which says to wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder. Then any new rumble restarts that clock. For the Red Rocks weather forecast on the night itself, open the National Weather Service Boulder forecast that afternoon. A table of normals can’t see a storm coming.
Does Red Rocks Cancel for Rain?
The FAQ says events happen in all Colorado weather, including severe rain and snow. That line is the headline of the Red Rocks rain policy. Whether a particular night runs or ends early is the call of the venue and the promoter.
Damp nights fit the numbers, since Evergreen averages 5.8 days with a tenth of an inch of rain in May. So nobody else can promise you either outcome, including us.
What to Wear and Bring for Red Rocks Weather
By the encore, a July crowd that arrived in shorts is pulling on sweatshirts. NOAA’s Evergreen record swings 32 degrees between high and low that month. That swing is why what to wear to Red Rocks starts with layers, and a rain jacket handles the storms in between. The Red Rocks umbrella policy is a single word, prohibited.
The venue’s permitted and prohibited items page boils the rest down to five short rules.
- A rain jacket replaces umbrellas.
- Blankets stay in your row.
- Seat cushions can’t have legs.
- Reusable bottles arrive empty.
- Spray sunscreen stays home.
A blanket over 40 by 60 inches stays outside, and so does a seat cushion 18 inches or wider. A hydration pack up to 2 liters gets through once it’s emptied, roughly double the 32 ounce limit on bottles.
A single-pocket bag or a clear bag works up to 13 by 15 by 8 inches. The 18 by 12 inch space under your seat is the real test. The venue’s list never mentions a poncho.
The EPA publishes a daily UV index running from 1 to 11 and up. It’s worth a glance before you pack the lotion.
Where to Wait Out a Delay When You Did Not Drive
A Red Rocks private shuttle driver waits until the concert ends, so the shelter the venue recommends is already booked. Limos and shuttle buses use the Top Circle Lot, according to the venue FAQ. Ride-service drop-off happens at the Upper North Lot.
Guests coming from Boulder can use the Boulder private car service page. The SUV and van fleet page shows which vehicle fits the group.
| Vehicle | Denver to Red Rocks | Boulder to Red Rocks |
|---|---|---|
| SUV, 1 to 5 passengers | from $250 | from $275 |
| Van, 1 to 9 passengers | from $379 | from $399 |
| Van, 1 to 14 passengers | from $449 | from $475 |
The Denver run takes about 40 minutes. Prices are set by route, so the $250 SUV from Denver comes to $300 with the 20% gratuity.
Chauffeur Service Cost – One Way Red Rocks

Frequently Asked Questions
With bench seats and a sky for a roof, the weather at Red Rocks is sun, wind, rain and snow in some order, and NOAA’s Evergreen July average of 65.1 degrees hides a 32 degree daily swing.
A June downpour is one of about five days that month with a tenth of an inch at Evergreen, and whether the show pauses or ends is up to the venue and the promoter.
Expect a weather delay if lightning shows up, and by National Weather Service guidance the place to wait is an enclosed metal-topped vehicle with the windows up, which matches the venue’s own advice.
If an umbrella is in your bag it stays outside, along with any aerosol can, though hand sanitizer in a pump or squeeze bottle up to 3 ounces gets in.
If you’re coming in September, the high to low gap on the table hits 33 degrees, the widest of the season, so layers with a rain jacket on top make the most sense.
Going by the venue’s own figure, it’s 6,400 feet, roughly 1,100 feet above the 5,280 that gives Denver its Mile High nickname.

We had an amazing experience with this company! They took care of all our transportation throughout our vacation — two evenings for «Goose» at Red Rocks, plus a round trip to Breckenridge. Dan even showed us the scenic route over Loveland Pass instead of going through the tunnel. Excellent service from start to finish!

Our driver Greg was excellent! He knew about the closure in Glenwood Canyon and took us through the stunning Independence Pass instead. The drive from Denver Airport to Aspen took less than four hours, and the scenery along the way was absolutely beautiful. Greg was friendly, professional, and great to talk to. We highly recommend this private transportation company!

Absolutely wonderful! Niko was on time, efficient, a great driver and knowledgeable about Redrocks and the area. Clean, nice van for 12 of us. It rained before the concert so after dropping us off he came back and picked us up, letting us sit in the van until the rain passed. It was a helpful way to keep us dry and enjoy the concert fully when it started. Thanks Niko!

We used a car service from Cherry Creek to Red Rocks concert and had a great experience. Driver Niko was professional, punctual, and made the whole trip smooth and comfortable. The best part was not having to deal with parking. Everything was handled smooth from pickup to drop-off upper north lot and back to hotel. Reliable, comfortable, see you next time!
