Vail Parking Guide: Rates, Structures and Free Options for Winter 2026-27

Vail parking can cost more than your lunch at the base on a busy Saturday. The upside is that the town keeps a few free windows open for drivers who plan ahead.

This guide walks through every structure and its rates along with the free spots most visitors drive right past. You will also see how overnight charges work and where to drop off skiers for free.

Every parking number here comes from Town of Vail sources for the ski season. Save it before you leave Denver since cell service on I-70 likes to take random breaks.

Vail Parking Rates for Winter 2026-27

The Town of Vail charges for parking at its structures through the entire ski season. The paid winter window for 2026-27 is planned for November 20, 2026 through April 18, 2027.

The base price is $10 per hour and the first hour free rule stays in place. Daily caps depend on the calendar and the crowd it brings to town. Regular days top out at $30 while peak days top out at $50 per car.

The peak cap jumped from $40 in 2024-25 to $50 last winter. Check the official Vail parking information page before you drive because new figures arrive in mid-October.

Day typeWhat you pay
Regular day$10 per hour after the free first hour, capped at $30
Peak day$10 per hour after the free first hour, capped at $50
Entry after 3 p.m.Free if the car exits before 4 a.m.
Overnight$60 in the village structures and $35 at Red Sandstone

Vail Village Parking Structure

This structure sits at 241 S Frontage Rd E with about 1,217 spaces. Gondola One is roughly a seven minute walk from the exit stairs to the lift.

That short walk is exactly why this garage fills first on every powder morning. Vail village parking puts you at the edge of the pedestrian village where cars stay out.

The structure follows standard town rates along with the Free After 3 rule for late arrivals. An overnight stay here costs $60, which makes some hotel valet fees look almost friendly. On peak days this garage often reaches capacity early in the morning.

Once it fills, the town points drivers toward Lionshead or overflow spots on Frontage Road. The Vail Transportation Center shares the same site, so the free bus waits right downstairs.

Lionshead Parking Structure

The Lionshead Parking Structure is at 354 S Frontage Rd W. It holds about 1100 cars. The Eagle Bahn Gondola is about a five minute walk from the garage exit.

This makes it the smarter pick for families. It is close to the ski school on the west side. Rates are the same as in Vail Village. You pay the same price for a shorter walk.

Free After 3 works here too. It suits anyone who comes for après or an early dinner. The overnight rate is also $60. The charge starts between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Many drivers treat this garage as plan B. On holidays it fills just as fast. The in-town bus stops close by. It links Lionshead with Vail Village all day long.

Red Sandstone Parking Garage

The Red Sandstone Parking Garage sits at 551 N Frontage Rd W on the north side of I-70. Daytime pricing follows the same hourly rates as the two main village structures.

The real draw is overnight parking for $35, which saves $25 per night versus the villages. Overnight stays are allowed only on levels 1 to 3, so skip the upper deck after dark.

The walk to Lionshead crosses the interstate and takes a little longer than from the main garages. For a three night stay those savings add up to $75 compared with a village garage.

Free Parking in Vail

Free spots exist here, although they mostly reward drivers who keep an eye on the clock.

  • Every town structure gives you the first hour free.
  • Entry after 3 p.m. is free at Vail Village and Lionshead.
  • Donovan Park offers free day parking with a free bus.
  • North Frontage Road in West Vail allows free parking in signed spots.

The free first hour works well for a quick gear pickup or a coffee run in the village. Free After 3 is built for dinner crowds and skiers squeezing in a few final laps.

Leave the car past 4 a.m. and the overnight rate replaces your free entry. Donovan Park sits at 1600 S Frontage Rd W and closes to day parking on event days.

Drivers register the plate through a QR code on ParkMobile signs before walking away. Overnight parking at Donovan is prohibited between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. every night.

The North Frontage Road spots sit west of the West Vail Mall and Vail Fire Station 3. Read every sign there because the free stretch has firm limits on where you can stop.

Vail Overnight Parking

Vail overnight parking gets charged between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. regardless of your arrival time. The Vail Village and Lionshead structures charge $60 per night during the ski season.

Red Sandstone Garage charges $35 per night and only on levels 1 to 3. Summer rates drop to $45 in the villages while Red Sandstone stays at $35. RV parking is limited to North Frontage Road in West Vail for $45 per day.

Donovan Park closes to cars overnight. Use it only for day trips. A hotel with its own garage may still be the better deal. Compare nightly fees first.

Peak Days and Live Parking Availability

Peak days in Vail cover Friday through Sunday plus holiday stretches like Christmas week. Those are the days when the $50 cap applies and the garages fill up early.

The Town of Vail posts live parking availability for each structure on its website. When the main structures fill, the town opens overflow parking along Frontage Road.

Arriving before 8 a.m. on a powder Saturday is the closest thing to a reserved spot. A Vail parking pass makes sense for anyone who skis here every single weekend.

The Local Pass cost $40 last season and requires proof of an Eagle County connection. Drivers with questions on the day can reach the Parking Office at 970-479-2445.

Skier Drop-Off Zones and the Free In-Town Bus

Every skier drop-off zone in Vail gives drivers 30 minutes for free. In Vail Village the zone sits just east of the Visitor Information Center.

At Lionshead you enter from the east side through the charter bus lot. Golden Peak has its own zone and it works well for families with ski school kids.

Cascade Village offers one more zone on the western edge of the resort. The in-town bus runs every 7 to 10 minutes during the ski season. It starts at the Vail Village Transportation Center and stops at Golden Peak first.

From there it heads to Lionshead and keeps looping back through the day. Full schedules sit on the town page with all Vail free bus routes and live tracking.

TESTIMONIALS

We had an amazing experience with Niko our driver and new friend. The original driver was tied up with airport delay and Niko said he would take of us and he did. I would highly recommend Niko and his company for your transportation requirements, you will not be disappointed!! Thank you so much for an awesome experience!

We had an amazing experience with this company! They took care of all our transportation throughout our vacation — two evenings for «Goose» at Red Rocks, plus a round trip to Breckenridge. Dan even showed us the scenic route over Loveland Pass instead of going through the tunnel. Excellent service from start to finish!

Our driver Greg was excellent! He knew about the closure in Glenwood Canyon and took us through the stunning Independence Pass instead. The drive from Denver Airport to Aspen took less than four hours, and the scenery along the way was absolutely beautiful. Greg was friendly, professional, and great to talk to. We highly recommend this private transportation company!

Absolutely wonderful! Niko was on time, efficient, a great driver and knowledgeable about Redrocks and the area. Clean, nice van for 12 of us. It rained before the concert so after dropping us off he came back and picked us up, letting us sit in the van until the rain passed. It was a helpful way to keep us dry and enjoy the concert fully when it started. Thanks Niko!

Highly recommend!! Saved my family from being stranded with only a few hours notice! I am so grateful. Will definitely use in the future.

Our first experience with Mr. Chauffeur was outstanding. From pickup to drop-off, communication was clear, and the trip went smoothly. The driver demonstrated exceptional skill in navigating traffic and knew the best route for a quick stop at the box office before dropping us off at the concert. Our driver was dedicated to coordinating a meeting spot after the concert and ensuring passenger comfort and punctuality. We highly recommend Mr. Chauffeur for private transportation and plan to use their services again.

We used a car service from Cherry Creek to Red Rocks concert and had a great experience. Driver Niko was professional, punctual, and made the whole trip smooth and comfortable. The best part was not having to deal with parking. Everything was handled smooth from pickup to drop-off upper north lot and back to hotel. Reliable, comfortable, see you next time!
